A violist arrived a few minutes late for the first rehearsal of the church’s annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. He unpacked his instrument, rosined his bow, and turned his attention to the conductor.
The conductor asked, “Would you like a moment to tune?”
The violist stared at him in bemusement. “Why?” he said. “Isn’t it the same as last year?”
Funny because there are baroque-performed recordings of The Messiah that are noticeably lower in pitch than modern instrument recordings because of the tunings.
See? Yuri is actually way ahead of us all, which is why we should stop being mean to him.
Yuri Bashmet! His autograph signature with the bass clef is where Hilary Hahn got her idea to use the treble one for hers!
Yup, that’s why the little viola guy up there is named Yuri. 😀
Oh! Cool, I had no idea you called him that! Hi Yuri! #wavingatcartoon
