Don't Fix It

Seasonally appropriate

A violist arrived a few minutes late for the first rehearsal of the church’s annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. He unpacked his instrument, rosined his bow, and turned his attention to the conductor.

The conductor asked, “Would you like a moment to tune?”

The violist stared at him in bemusement. “Why?” he said. “Isn’t it the same as last year?”

About Jenn

Despite being the former digital marketing intern at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Jenn German does not like Mozart. Beethoven could've totally beaten him up. Also she has an arts management graduate degree from American University, but this changes nothing.

  1. Funny because there are baroque-performed recordings of The Messiah that are noticeably lower in pitch than modern instrument recordings because of the tunings.

  2. Yuri Bashmet! His autograph signature with the bass clef is where Hilary Hahn got her idea to use the treble one for hers!
