Don't Fix It

Ravish me!

This week’s BSO concert is entitled “Ravishing Rachmaninoff.” Hee. Ahem. Haha. Er. Heeeeeeeeeeee.

I’m sorry, I can’t help myself; that’s just funny. And the wordplay is pretty good too!

Okay, okay, opinions to myself. The concert features Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto no. 2, and I’ll shock you all now by saying that that’s a piece for which I actually harbor some mild affection. Mild, mind you, like a mild cold, but still. It was used for one of the climactic ballets in the addictively histrionic dance movie Center Stage (note: it was NOT the one with the motorcycle). Also you have Bruckner’s sixth symphony.

Juanjo Mena will conduct, Yuja Wang will… pianify, pianate, pianamos contigo, and there are three performances: Thursday, February 10 at 8 pm at Strathmore; Friday, February 11 at 8 pm at the Meyerhoff; and Sunday, February 13 at 3 pm at the Meyerhoff.

Ravishing Rachmaninoff. Bahahahaha.

About Jenn

Despite being the former digital marketing intern at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Jenn German does not like Mozart. Beethoven could've totally beaten him up. Also she has an arts management graduate degree from American University, but this changes nothing.

  1. You are too funny. And I loved Center Stage. But Rach 2 was also used in Cinema Paradiso, Brief Encounter, The Seven Year Itch, September Affair, Rhapsody, Spider-man 3, and even Princess Diaries 2 (amongst others, I’m sure).

  2. Yuja Wang. That woman packs a punch doesn’t she? I once saw her own Prokofiev 1 with Chicago. And that was just a rehearsal, mind. I was smitten within 15 measures.
