Don't Fix It

An existential question

Q. If a tree falls on a viola in the middle of the forest and there’s no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

A. Yes. The sound of applause as soon as the word gets around.

About Jenn

Despite being the former digital marketing intern at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Jenn German does not like Mozart. Beethoven could've totally beaten him up. Also she has an arts management graduate degree from American University, but this changes nothing.

  1. Jenn, the timing of this post is too funny! At the end of a 7-week run of The Fantasticks (playing keyboard in pit band), a bad cold blocked my right ear (but not the left!) for one performance.

My question, part of an upcoming Sat. post, is, “If you play something and YOU can’t hear it, is there a sound?”

That was a totally new experience.

    • Dang. You must have perfect pitch or something like it. My question would be, “If you play something and YOU can’t hear it, is it in tune?” Although I guess the nice thing about the piano is that if nothing else when you hit the right key you get the right note.
